The Council of Ministers of Culture of South East Europe
The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Culture of South East Europe
The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Culture of South East Europe would like to actively contribute to a revitalised role of the CoMoCoSEE.
1st expert meeting 18 February 2013 would be devoted to the assessment of recent activities in the field of cultural heritage in the broader region, which take place under the patronage of international organisations and/or different initiatives involving the participation of national experts. We will follow the aim to prepare a consistent overview and analysis which would show the recent achievements and needs for upgrading the current operation in the field of heritage protection and thus satisfy the additional demand of countries for convergence of current platforms as formulated in the final declaration of the UNESCO ministerial meeting in Sofia on the topic of cultural heritage end October 2012. We strongly believe such an effective assessment of the past regional projects and programmes can path the way to a strategic reflection on the upgrading of past and current projects and formulation of our future common priorities, preferably including also initiatives for new partner regional cooperation programmes/projects.
2nd expert meeting 12-13 March 2013 aims to highlight the potential of culture and arts on the development of human resources and specific modern social challenges. The objective of activities on the relevant topic is also to promote the adoption and implementation of the UNESCO fundamental documents in the field of culture and arts education: Road map for arts education and Seoul Agenda: Goals for the Development of Arts Education in the region and CoMoCoSEE member states (according to UNESCO Slovenia remains the only country in South Eastern Europe that implemented the specified documents and engaged into concrete projects in the relevant field). We plan to demonstrate the excellent practice in networking of cultural and education institutions, as well as diverse actors in the broad field of culture and education, to be potentially considered as one of the priorities of our future regional cooperation.
We will convene for the concluding Annual Council of Ministers for Culture of South Europe on 8-9 April 2013 as already communicated to you. At this occasion we should be able to provide a joint mission statement on the results and future priorities of our regional cooperation in the field of culture and cultural heritage. This should also include a joint proposal how to approach to a consolidation and convergence of existing platforms in the field of (cultural) development and cultural heritage towards a new more relevant and effective regional ministerial platform.
Article 11 of the Declaration reads as following: »to establish, in cooperation with UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the EU, a new unified ministerial platform on culture and development in SEE, the format of which will be presented during the next meeting of the Council of Ministers of Culture of SEE in April 2013«.
